Project

The National Stadium of China (Bird’s Nest), the main stadium for the 2008 Olympic Games, has 3 underground floors and 7 aboveground floors. The overall designed cooling load is 14,533 kW, utilizing a combination of ground source heat pumps and ice storage cooling technology.

Application

Two fully enclosed vertical screw full-liquid ground source heat pump units, model WCFXHP41TR, each with a cooling capacity of 900 kW, are used. The cooling condition design temperature for chilled water is 5/13°C, and the heating condition design temperature for hot water supply and return is 55/50°C.

For the underground heat source, the design supply and return water temperatures are 5/2°C in winter and 27/32°C in summer.
